Canada's Immigration System a 'Role Model' for other Countries

Canada’s system for recruiting skilled immigrants is elaborate, functions well and might hold lessons for other countries that want to use immigration to help fuel economic growth, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said in a report released Tuesday.
Canada has the largest and most elaborate skilled immigration system of OECD countries, and was the first country to introduce a points-based selection system which later influenced other major receiving countries like Australia, the United States and New Zealand. An elaborate points-based ranking system allows for more refinement and control in the selection process.
Canada offers both Federal and Provincial/Territorial programs for skilled migration. The Federal Express Entry system highly values human capital factors, such as language, education and work experience.
Among other strengths, Canada builds on “a welcoming host society, which considers immigration as a part of its national heritage,” the report says. SOURCE: CIC NEWS
