Justin Trudeau Wins Second Term in Canada's 2019 Election

Canada's 2019 Federal Elections: Trudeau wins the second term but with the minority. The Liberals’ minority status means they will now have to find common ground among their opponents in Parliament in order to pass legislation. Toronto, Canada - Justin Trudeau secures another four years despite a series of scandals. Liberals were declared minority government, which means now they'll have with other parties to govern. Canada's parliament has 338 seats. The Liberals had 156 seats 14 short of the 170 needed for a majority.

“We seek hardship for none and prosperity for all, and if we unite around these common goals, I know we can achieve them,” Trudeau said in the winning speech.

Liberal immigration policies will continue, but they'll now need opposition support. The multi-year approach to immigration levels planning that was introduced by the Liberals in 2017 has the number of newcomers to Canada reaching 350,000 by 2021 — a total annual increase of around three percent over 2020. This level of the increase could continue beyond 2021 if the Liberals can gain majority support for their immigration targets moving forward. "Aspirants who are well eligible for Canadian Immigration, may not waste time and get into the pool at the earliest to obtain their permanent residency, avoiding any changes in the future in immigration policies and express entry system."
